OUR TRAVEL STORIES

A growing collection of travel guides and cultural stories where we have wandered, laughed, and learned along the way.

Below you will find the destinations we have written about; a small but growing collection of travel stories, cultural experiences, and slow travel tips. Think of it as a living journal, fewer tourist clichés, more real moments, humor, and the kind of details that make a place unforgettable.

Destinations

INDONESIA

In Indonesia, you find ancient culture, vibrant food, and scenic islands, an ideal journey for couples who travel with intention. Bali offers beaches and temples, Java gives you Borobudur at sunrise, and Komodo teases with dragons. Everywhere, the food burns bright with spice and soul. Check out the Indonesia Practical Info blog for everything you need to know about traveling, living, and exploring in Indonesia.

MALAYSIA

Malaysia invites you to linger, savoring Penang’s street food, wandering colonial towns, and unwinding on tropical islands. And then there’s Kuala Lumpur, or just KL if you want to sound like a local. It’s a city that never sits still, yet somehow makes space for you to stay awhile. Come hungry, come curious, and let Malaysia pull you in.

Our Kind of Travel Stories

Cary has this gift: strangers start telling him their life story. Within minutes he knows their childhood pets, the saga of how they underestimated Indonesian sambal, took one heroic spoonful, and reached temporary enlightenment followed by immediate regret.

For me, the resident introvert, the whole thing is… a lot. Halfway through, I am calculating whether faking a bathroom break counts as rude or already mapping the nearest exit like it is a fire drill. Somehow it works, he drags us into conversations, and I pull us out when it is time to eat again.

Here you will find our growing collection of country guides and stories. Each destination page connects you to cultural insights, practical tips, and on-the-ground experiences, designed for travelers over 50, who like us, prefer to treat a city like a friend to linger with, not a contest to conquer.

Why We Traveled Slow

Slow travel is not about checklists. It is about comfort, connection, and culture. It is the lazy lunches that stretch into dinner, the streets that only reveal their magic once we stop hurrying, and the conversations that somehow follow us everywhere. We do not have the energy for the mad dash model of travel. If we sprint through cities like contestants in an international scavenger hunt, we need a nap before clue number two. When we try it, the result is a blur of museums, a wallet full of ticket stubs, and no memory of what we actually saw. It feels like paying good money for amnesia.

How to Use the Destination Page

Think of this section as your starting point. Choose a country, then wander through its stories at your own pace.

We add new countries and cities as we travel. Each guide builds out slowly, because rushing has never been our style. These pages offer cultural insights, practical tips, and stories that show what it feels like to stay a while instead of racing through.

Keep checking back, or better yet, subscribe, so you will know when new stories are ready. Our travels grow slowly, just like the way we believe journeys are meant to be lived.
